There is a reason for painting and there is a reason for photography. Both media make pictures. But each medium demands a different approach, mindset, and physical process in the making of the picture. Some things can be said easier in one medium than in the other. Some things can only exist in painting, and some things can only exist in photography - or maybe not.
In painting format and size are predetermined. In photography the image determines format and size.
